Glossary
This page explains the terms used in Kakao Mobility documentation.
Alternative route
Alternative route
Another route that can be chosen instead of the route currently being driven.
App-to-App
App-to-App
A method in which an external app calls the Kakao Navi app to receive route guidance.
Bird's eye view
Bird's eye view
A viewpoint that looks at the map as if it were photographed from an elevated angle. Using the bird's eye view, you can see the height of buildings and the sense of perspective in more detail.
C-ITS
C-ITS
Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems. A technology that exchanges information in real time through vehicle-to-vehicle communication and improves traffic safety and efficiency by connecting vehicles with infrastructure. Examples include collision warning systems between vehicles, traffic flow optimization through traffic information sharing, and autonomous driving technology.
ETA
ETA
Short for Estimated Time of Arrival.
Future driving information
Future driving information
A feature that searches for a route based on predicted traffic conditions at a specific point in the future.
Geocoding
Geocoding
Converting an address string into coordinates (longitude, latitude) on the map.
In-app
In-app
A method that provides navigation features directly inside your own app without calling an external app.
ITS
ITS
Intelligent Transport Systems. A system that applies advanced technology to transportation means or facilities to improve traffic flow and enhance safety.
Latitude
Latitude
A coordinate that expresses a position on the map in the vertical direction. It is usually expressed as latitude — the angular distance north or south of the equator — and indicates a position moving up and down on the map.
Link
Link
A line that represents a road or route on the map, connecting the nodes where a change of speed occurs.
Longitude
Longitude
A coordinate that expresses a position on the map in the horizontal direction. It is usually expressed as longitude, and indicates a position moving left and right on the map.
Marker
Marker
A visual mark used to indicate a specific location on the map. It is usually expressed as an icon, a symbol, or a custom image, and helps draw attention to and identify a specific location.
Minimum Bounding Rectangle (MBR)
Minimum Bounding Rectangle (MBR)
The smallest rectangular area that encloses a point or a shape.
Native App Key
Native App Key
A unique key value used for SDK authentication in a mobile app.
Node
Node
A point where speed changes while driving. Road intersections, tollgates, and traffic lights are examples.
Point of Interest
Point of Interest
Also called POI, this refers to business names and building names shown on maps and in navigation.
radius
radius
The radius of an area shown as a circle on the map. It indicates how far the area extends from the center position, and is used to specify the range of a particular location.
Raster file
Raster file
An image made up of small rectangular pixels that have color values. The more pixels there are, the higher the image quality, and the number of pixels in such an image is determined differently depending on the file format. (File formats — PNG, JPG, GIF, and so on)
REST API
REST API
Short for Representational State Transfer API, this refers to an architectural style for communication between web services. A REST API is used to exchange data based on the HTTP protocol, transferring state between the client and the server.
rpflag
rpflag
An arrival link that lets the specified destination be guided precisely. Based on the coordinates of the waypoint or destination, you can set the arrival link by combining rpflag attribute values according to various road conditions and user needs.
Segment
Segment
A unit that represents part of a route, and a portion of a link. A segment represents a section with specific conditions or characteristics, and is one of the elements that make up a route.
Top view
Top view
A viewpoint that looks at the map vertically from above. The top view is generally expressed as a 2D map, showing the ground spread out horizontally.
Traffic incident information
Traffic incident information
Information about special traffic incidents such as accidents, congestion, and construction. It is used to predict potentially hazardous situations that may occur while driving, warn the driver, and guide them to an alternative route.
Vector file
Vector file
An image made up of straight lines and curves using points fixed to a grid. Because it consists of points and lines based on mathematical formulas, image quality is maintained even when the image is enlarged or reduced. (File formats — SVG, AI, and so on)
Virtual link
Virtual link
A link formed by connecting two or more links so that travel between them is possible. It is mainly used to keep route guidance stable on private roads or underground roads where passage is restricted.
Voice Guidance
Voice Guidance
A feature that gives voice guidance for turns, safety information, and more while driving.
